This six weeks, the Learning Lab has studied installation art. After viewing the Karla Black and Eva Rothschild exhibits, we discussed how location affects the meaning and experience with the art.
In groups of six, students created their own collaborative "earthworks" at Klyde Warren Park. Each group was assigned a material (rocks, sand, sticks, leaves). They tackled many challenges such as creating art in public spaces, ephemerality, and time management.

Monday, September 10 Exploring Variations
On Monday, the DMA created an exclusive experience for the Learning Lab students, and welcomed us to the museum during closed hours. Students explored the exhibition Variations on Theme: Contemporary Art 1950s-Present. In groups, they wrote a dialogue between two paintings and then they learned about the influence of vanitas in Andy Warhol's Electric Chair series.
